DOJ goes to court over California's voter rolls
The Justice Department sued California and Los Angeles County, asking a judge to set aside mail ballots tied to about 20,000 people it calls likely noncitizens. The county was given 48 hours to review the list before the suit was filed.
The Justice Department says it is protecting citizens' votes from being diluted by illegal ones, and that the state did not act fast enough on the names it flagged.
California officials call the list unsupported and likely inaccurate, and experts warn that matching voter and immigration data produces false positives. On Oct. 20, Schumer and Jeffries sued, alleging DHS pressured states to use unreliable noncitizen lists.
